چکیده

A case of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome associated with ventricular fibrillation is presented. The control of recurrent ventricular fibrillation with large doses of digitalis and other antiarrhythmic drugs, including propranolol, lidocaine, procainamide, and quinidine, is discussed. As far as we can determine, this is the first human case in which the precise onset of ventricular fibrillation was documented. Possible mechanisms are presented that may produce ventricular fibrillation in patients with WolffParkinson-White syndrome associated with atrial flutter or fibrillation.

Risk of sudden death in Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome: how high is the risk?

In 1930, Dr Louis Wolff, Sir John Parkinson, and Paul Dudley White described a case series of 11 patients with a syndrome that now bears their name.1 The first patient with a short PR interval, ventricular preexcitation, and supraventricular tachycardia was described by Cohn and Fraser in 1913.1 Wood et al postulated the accessory pathway (AP) as its anatomic substrate in 1942, and a large popu...

Late onset of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome in a 72-year-old man.

We encountered a case of wide QRS tachycardia with chronic atrial fibrillation in Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Unique features were late onset of syncope attacks associated with this tachycardia at an advanced age of 72 years old without previous documentation of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome on electrocardiogram. He had a high likelihood of sudden cardiac death. Catheter ablation using CAR...

[Sudden death in the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome].

Clinical electrophysiologic studies in patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) suffering from ventricular fibrillation have shown a high prevalence of short anterograde refractory period of the accessory pathway (less than or equal to 250 ms), short preexcited RR intervals during atrial fibrillation (less than or equal to 250 ms), and multiple accessory pathways. Unfortunately the sp...
